The Start of it all
Brian Smith, the “father” of the UGG Boots was the one who started it all. He was the man behind the huge success of UGG. Brian started the manufacture of his boots in 1978. He was still a young and adventurous Australian surfer then, who just wants to create boots that surfers can change into after coming out of the water and not knowing that this will mark a milestone in the boots industry. And so the boots became a favorite among surfers because of the comfort it brings – the warmth and its ability to protect their feet from the sand and stones of the trek back to their cars after the surf.
The Founding Years
Later on, Brian came to the realization of the potential of his boots. He started to explore the possibility of bringing his boots in a global scale. The Unites States appealed to Brian and so he packed his things and headed for the United States. He tried out in New York but unfortunately, he was not able to find the market that he is searching for there. However, the situation didn’t dumped his spirit. Brian saw the similarity of the sunny shores of Southern California with his hometown and so he tried out his designs there with a big hope that the designs will thrive there. He was not mistaken. Like the Australian surfers, the US surfers found his boots comfy.
This is the birth of UGG’s first market. UGG was originally called Ug, Ugh and then later evolved to the now popular UGG. UGG was not originally a brand name but just an expression used to refer to the boots. No one was really able to track how the UGG Boots evolved from Ug or Ugh.
The Growing Years
The manufacturing of UGG boots started in Perth (one of the largest cities on the West Coast of Australia). It was originally manufactured by small companies in the area. The success of UGGS in the area was attributed to the similarity with the climate of Southern California where the first market of UGG was. The surfers in the Perth area loved the UGG boots for their comfort. It was during this time when the UGG Boots has gained popularity among in the surfing community and became the symbol of the Aussie surfing lifestyle.
Spread of UGGS
UGG sales has shoot up in the following years. From Perth, UGG Boots reached the shores of the East Coast of Brisbane and Sydney where it was warmly accepted. One of the surfers discovered that the UGG Boots were also as comfortable to wear in the snow as it is in the sands. It is at this time when UGG became a cult fashion and surfers in Australia would send their mates to other parts of the globe so they can also experience the UGG Boots.
The UGGS today
Today, everyone all over the globe can purchase UGG boots because of the power of the internet. UGG was able to come up with more designs to choose from while retaining its old comfort. Some UGG boots may be a bit pricey but it is well worth it. Besides, once in a while UGG holds a UGG sale where they slash off prices of their products. UGG sale is something that should not be missed out by UGG fans.
